Beofore leaving Vuda Pt, Abdul the taxi gave me a package to deliver to "Mambo" a catamaran at anchor in Musket Cove. On arriving at Musket Cove anchored in the bay is Mambo and Drifter...I anchor jauts away from them. Later in the pm Heinz and Sylvia come over to collect the package...turns out its some string shawl things...Sylvia had bought one and said in the taxi to Abdul, I should have got more of these. No problem said Abdul, I get it for you and send to Musket Cove..so..
Heinz and Sylvia invited me for "sundowners" at 5... went over and tied up the dinghy ..securely I thought...had a beer and a nice chat he is Austrian and she English but their home is in Salzburg. They have been sailing since 1983 !! the cat Mambo is there second boat..they have had it for about 5 years..bought in Florida and sailed here.
Next Arnauld and Cobe (Dutch) from Drifter (met them at Makongai last year and was next to them at Vuda when put back in the water, came across...they were going ashore to cook on the barbecue at the island bar.... "see you later for cards" Heinz shouted....
Then Sylvia said why don't you have dinner with us..its not much..just meat and potatoes, carrots etc...I'm doing it now...there's plenty for 3...well, ok, thank you...so we did that and about 8pm Arnauld and Cobe came back...checked the dinghy was still there.
We played a strange game of cards which they taught me...I'm not very good...but it was silly and good fun...the wind was getting..checked agin...yes dinghy still there...
About 1030..its time toi go..and no dinghy !!! Heinz got out his searchlight...can't see anything. Arnauld said, I take you back to your boat and first light we go looking.
Ok..well I didn't / couldn't sleep..I felt such an idiot for losing our dinghy...probably slept about from 4 to 6 ...Arnauld turns up and says..I've already been looking..can't see it...best we go to the marina office and get the guys there to let everyone know...get the jungle telegraph going...so we scoot in to do that...chap on the radio contacts all the resorts around and the diving boats...Vinaka, vinaka waka levu...
Then an english woman arrives...Arnauld clearly knows here...shes about 6 ft tall blonde with tattoos everywhere..are you going back she asks Arnauld....yes do you want a lift he asks...yes please, I came ashore last night and never made it back to the boat (!)...
So all in Arnaulds dinghy and we head to a catamaran called Coromandel...she gets off...we tell Don the skipper the story and he says..I know where it is...gets out binoculars and says...I thought so..look over there in the mangroves just below the dip in the hill...and sure enough that looks like it !
So, thanks...tattoo lady says can I come for the ride ? OK says Arnauld so off we shoot to the other side, over the reef, over the sand bank..then have to walk the last 100 metres, its so shallow. Arnauld and I lift the dink out of the mangroves...I start the motor and that's it we're off...
I stop by Coromandel and leave a couple of beers for Don...he's not there...and shoot into shore to tell the guys we've found it...walking along the jetty, everyone knows about it...have you found it they all ask...yup, we have !
